OUR WORK: Reconnect Magazine
ABOUT OUR WORK
The first time we encountered Reconnect Magazine was while spending a holiday Totnes in 2010. It was easy to notice because of its vibrance, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a free magazine. The types of articles and advertisers it seemed to attract was very different from any other free local magazine we had ever encountered. It also felt like a magazine that was very personal to the people living here and in the surrounding towns.
After setting up Doets Design in the UK, we moved onto the next developmental faze of ‘getting our name out’. Advertising in Reconnect seemed the logical thing to do. After getting in touch with the editor and meeting face to face in Totnes, we started talking about the state of their website at the time. It was in desperate need of updating and a fresh new design to go with its new look. Something we were very happy to supply. In the coming year we hope to expand the functionality of the Reconnect website, and add to the succes of the magazine.
ABOUT THE PROJECT

Reconnect offers information, inspiration and celebration around all aspects of sustainable living – all of it focussed on the vibrant communities of Exeter, Totnes, Plymouth and across South Devon. It is distributed free across the whole region and can be picked up from a range of small independent businesses (from wholefood stores to natural health centres) and public spaces like libraries and galleries.
Hundreds of sustainable and ethical businesses use Reconnect to get their message out to people who care about how and where their products and services are sourced. As well as a range of snappy, chatty news items and lengthier, more in-depth articles, the magazine includes the following popular regular features:
Local produce – news and views from people across a range of food and drink producers, including community growing projects.
Eco homes – an examination of traditional and green building, renewable energy and ethical materials and techniques.
Going Out – a unique guide to alternative arts, crafts and environmental events across Reconnectland.
Wellbeing – our comprehensive look at the latest in complementary health and personal development within our region.
The website tries to emulate the experience of the magazine, by changing its colours with every issue. Visitors can read articles from the current issue, as well as past issues. The website gives people extra information on distribution points, and gets them in contact with the social media side of the magazine.
