OUR WORK: Haytor View Primary School & Nursery
ABOUT OUR WORK
Haytor View is situated in the heart of the Buckland community in Newton Abbot. There is a certain kind of pride that comes up when people talk about the school. The residents of Buckland are critical of the schools underperforming past but always do wish it well. It has a special place in the hearts of many.
At the end of 2015 Haytor View opened the doors to its new premises. They left behind the old and cramped building which they had occupied for many years, crossed the road, and entered the beautiful and modern new building that had just been finished. The new building is a testament to their philosophy of open learning. Everything is easily accessible and there’s a genuine sense of openness and transparency. It’s a school that a new generation of students can be proud of.
The only thing that still required updating was the school’s website. So much energy had been put into finishing the school itself that a new website became a project that was being put off.
Because we at Doets Design are also part of the Buckland community, we felt it was up to us to alert the school of their online presence and the image they were broadcasting. The online version of Haytor View did not in any way represent the real life version, so we decided to make a proposal for a new website. A proposal that the people at Haytor View were happy to accept.

“Throughout the school community, adults demonstrate respectful communication and relationships with children and families. They have a flexible and empathetic approach to circumstance and need, adapting their responses and provision accordingly.
We work with families to ensure each child successfully accesses a learning environment in which they feel safe and secure both emotionally and physically, where they feel confident in engaging with appropriate challenge in their learning and development.”
The website gives a modern feel to the school. It is a way of presenting a fresh face to newcomers, and indicating change to the people who grew up with the school. Essential to the ‘look’ of the website are the students and all their doings. Mixing formative play with their lessons.
Parents have easy access to the necessary school documentation, as well as being able to read lunch menus and newsletters. The website also enables parent to stay up to date with events and important dates. Students have a class page of their own. Teachers can add photographs, videos and stories to the page as the year progresses.
